WALES AIR AMBULANCE Charity Registration No. 1083645
We are very proud to have the Wales Air Ambulance as our official charity for the Abersoch Triple Crown, and would like to encourage as many runners & triathletes as possible to help raise money for this invaluable cause.
Wales Air Ambulance is an all Wales charity providing emergency air cover for those who face life-threatening illness or injuries in Wales. This service is carried out by the charity’s three helmed crews, bases in the North (Caernarfon), Mid (Welshpool) and South (Swansea) of Wales.
From these airbases each helicopter can be launched within 3 minutes of receiving an emergency call and arrive at the scene anywhere in Wales within 20 minutes.
A patient’s chances of survival and early recovery are increased if they receive the right care within the first hour, otherwise known as the Golden Hour. The fast response times and the expert medical care provided by the Wales Air Ambulance crews gets patients to the care they need in the quickest possible time.
Each crew has of one pilot and two advanced life support paramedics who are trained in the latest techniques in pre-hospital emergency care to ensure the patient receives the most effective treatment.”
Cost to the charity:
“Every year the charity is called out to around 2,000 with each call out costing on average £1,500. There are 16 full time HEMS paramedics working on the helicopters across Wales whose training come at a yearly cost to the charity. To keep all three helicopters operating in Wales 7 days a week the charity needs to raise £6million every year.
Due to the nature of the charity, they receive no funding from the government or National Lottery and rely entirely on generous public donations to continue to provide their service to the people of Wales.”
DONATING: There will be opportunities to donate money on race day but we would really like to see as many runners as possible to agree to take on a sponsorship when entering. You never know when you might need their services.
